This book pops up to reveal six entertaining scenes from a travelling menagerie show, popular during the late ninetheenth century. 

Narrated in Verse by Anthea Bell. This edition is The Metropolitan Museum of Art Facsimile of The Great Menagerie which was originally published in 1884 by J F Schreiber 1884. Pop-up includes Aquarium, Lion, Snake Charmer; Tiger, Hyena, Monkey & Elephant - a pop-up book in which the reader lifts the tab to reveal the menagerie of caged wild animals, one is an aquarium with an actual 'glass' front.

Anthea Bell (1936 – 2018) was one of the most renowned British translators. She rendered numerous literary works including children's literature, from French, German and Danish. These include The Castle by Franz Kafka, Austerlitz by W. G. Sebald, the Inkworld trilogy by Cornelia Funke and the French Asterix comics with co-translator Derek Hockridge. She received her OBE for services to literature and literary translation in 2010.
